This is a high-impact role focused on expanding the bank’s merchant acquiring business and driving national digital payment priorities.
Role Overview
The Business Development Manager – Merchant Acquiring is responsible for onboarding high-value merchants, strengthening corporate relationships, and driving government sector initiatives. The position ensures portfolio growth, service quality, and the advancement of digital payment acceptance across Sri Lanka.
Key Responsibilities

Merchant Onboarding: Identify and target corporate merchants across key industry segments.

Digital Solutions: Promote POS, e-commerce, and QR payment solutions tailored to merchant needs.

Strategy & Growth: Drive fee income through MDR pricing, cross-selling, and bundled solutions while conducting market research and competitor benchmarking.

Relationship Management: Maintain strong ties with merchants, payment gateways, aggregators, and government entities (SOEs).

Compliance & Performance: Oversee portfolio profitability, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage operational cost efficiency.

Innovation: Support Central Bank initiatives to expand cashless adoption and implement solutions aligned with Lanka-QR and e-government platforms.
Qualifications and Experience
To be eligible for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

Nationality: Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or a Master’s Degree in Banking, Finance, Business Management, or a related field from a UGC-recognized university or institute.

Industry Experience: Minimum of 15 years in the Financial Service Industry.

Specialized Experience: At least 10 years of exposure to Cards, Payments, or Digital Banking within a bank or financial organization (local or abroad).

Leadership: At least 03 years of experience in an Assistant Manager or Managerial role within the same industry.

Age: Should be less than 50 years old as of the closing date.
Remuneration and Benefits
People’s Bank offers an attractive and negotiable remuneration package commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointment will be made on a contract basis, with performance evaluated annually.
