Overview

Seylan Bank is hiring an Executive for its Islamic Banking Unit (IBU). Applications go by email within 7 days of the advertisement.

The notice does not name a location. The role works with branches and Head Office departments.

Duties

  • Maintain information on all IBU products, including documentation, transaction processes and back-end credit procedures
  • Make sure IBU operations follow the Bank’s approved policies, regulations and Sharia principles
  • Work with the IT Department to fix system issues affecting IBU asset and liability products
  • Authorize CASA account openings under KYC/AML rules and approve fund transfers, including SLIPS, RTGS and standing orders
  • Review branch customer transactions for compliance with policies and regulations
  • Liaise with the Sharia Supervisory Board on product development, Sharia compliance and audit needs
  • Maintain the IBU profit distribution system knowledge and follow up on system enhancements
  • Prepare Letter of Credit position sheets and help customers through LC opening
  • Initiate and approve Telegraphic Transfer requests within authorization limits
  • Respond to monthly variance reports from the Finance Department and answer internal audit queries until observations are closed
  • Represent the IBU in meetings with branches, Head Office departments, the Sharia Supervisory Board, auditors and regulators

Requirements

  • 6 to 7 years in banking, including at least 3 to 4 years in Islamic banking
  • A fully or partially completed degree, or a professional qualification in banking or finance from a reputed professional body
  • Strong knowledge of Islamic banking products and structures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical, problem-solving and reconciliation skills with close attention to detail
  • Able to prioritize tasks and work accurately to strict deadlines
  • A qualification in Islamic banking is an advantage
