Overview

The Department of Animal Production and Health is filling 20 Laboratory Assistant posts (Grade III, Primary Grade Semi-Skilled Technical Service). Half are open to the public and half to existing department staff. Applications close on 13 November 2026.

Position

  • Vacancies: 20, split 50% open and 50% limited
  • Pay: PL 2-2025, Rs. 41,800 rising to Rs. 65,560 (Rs. 41,800 with 10 increments of Rs. 490, 10 of Rs. 540, 10 of Rs. 590 and 12 of Rs. 630)
  • The post is permanent with pension rights as set by the government. Appointees serve a 3-year probation and must pass the language proficiency requirement under Public Administration Circular 18/2020.

Qualifications

  • Open applicants: pass 6 subjects at G.C.E. O/L in no more than two sittings, with 2 credit passes.
  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 certificate in laboratory work from an institution registered with the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission.
  • Two years of laboratory experience from a recognised institution, shown by a certificate.
  • Age 18 to 45 on 13 November 2026 for open applicants. No age limit for limited applicants, who must have 5 years of confirmed service in a non-primary technical post in the department.
  • Good health, good character, and willingness to serve anywhere in Sri Lanka.

Selection

Open applicants sit a practical test marked out of 100 (basic knowledge 20, equipment setup and maintenance 20, fault identification 40, equipment use 20). The pass mark is 40%. Applicants who pass are called to a structured interview.

Attach your NIC, birth certificate, certificates and two character certificates (one from the Grama Niladhari, issued within the last 6 months). Write “Laboratory Assistant” on the top left of the envelope. Limited applicants apply through their head of department.
