Salary
- PL 1: Rs. 40,000 – 10 x 450 – 10 x 490 – 10 x 540 – 12 x 590 = Rs. 61,880
- PL 2: Rs. 41,800 – 10 x 490 – 10 x 540 – 10 x 590 – 12 x 630 = Rs. 63,560
From 01.01.2027 pay follows Public Administration Circular No. 10/2025. Until then it is calculated under the Third Schedule of that circular.
Qualifications
- Sri Lankan citizen aged 18 to 45
- G.C.E. (O/L) passed in six subjects, with credit passes in two, in no more than two sittings
- PL 2 posts: NVQ Level 2 competency in the relevant field
- Elephant Keeper: Grade 8 passed and a practical test
- Good character, and physical and mental fitness to serve anywhere in the island
PL 1 applicants are chosen by a structured interview. PL 2 applicants face a practical test and a structured interview.

- Certified copy of the birth certificate
- Certified copy of the National Identity Card or a valid passport
- Certified copies of O/L and A/L certificates
- Grama Niladhari certificate (DS 04)
- Tractor Operator, Backhoe Operator and Vehicle Assistant: certified copy of the driving licence
